Kabir Singh Director Sandeep Reddy Vanga Gets Irked When Asked About Controversial Kiss Scene In The Film! Says, 'Bhool Jao’
Sandeep Reddy Vanga is currently busy promoting his recent release Animal, and he has shared his thoughts on the controversial yet blockbuster Hindi debut film, Kabir Singh
Sandeep Reddy Vanga has made an everlasting impact on the Indian Cinema with his 2017 directorial debut, Arjun Reddy, starring Vijay Deverakonda. The much-successful film was also remade in Hindi as Kabir Singh starring Shahid Kapoor and Kiara Advani. However, despite 6-years into the film’s release, the audience cannot stop talking about Arjun Reddy or Kabir Singh.
The filmmaker, who is currently busy promoting his recent release Animal, has shared his thoughts on the controversial yet blockbuster Hindi debut film, Kabir Singh. In a conversation with CNN-News18, he was asked about the non-consensual kissing scene between the lead couple, Shahid Kapoor and Kiara Advani, which created quite a stir after the film was released. He said: “I didn’t think much about it. I don’t think that Kabir Singh was a misogynistic film. Only four to five people felt offended and created noise about it. I never took them seriously.”
The filmmaker was told that more than just four or five people found his previous Hindi film very problematic. In response to it, the director said that initially, just a handful of people wrote articles about the film, and the rest just followed.
He further added: “Four people wrote articles about it, and that inspired others to write more articles. Not more than 20 people in total, it was their point-of-view. We should not talk about all that, bhool jao Kabir Singh ko.”
For those unaware, Kabir Singh, starring Shahid Kapoor and Kiara Advani in the lead roles, was released in 2019 and became a huge box-office success. However, the film received public scrutiny for its portrayal and justification of toxic masculinity and misogyny.
Despite the backlash, both the leads, Shahid and Kiara have, time and again, defended the movie. In an interview with Miday, Shahid referred to the film as a "dysfunctional love story between a very simple girl and a very talented, brilliant, aggressive, disturbed guy." Kiara Advani, too, in another of her interview with Bollywood Hungama said: “My opinion has always been very clear, and for me, deep down, it’s a love story, and the thing about love is that it’s the only thing that will allow you to forgive certain behaviours in life. Relationships are very complex, and it’s very easy for a third person to say, ‘Get out of that relationship’. But for two people in that relationship, it is another complication altogether.”
